5 Low Calorie Snacks to have in the workplace!

It’s 3pm.  You’re in the office.   You’re half-way between lunchtime and the drive home.   You have a craving for a snack.  The office kitchen cupboard or canteen is lit up with all manner of unhealthy snacks and sweet treats.  It’s very tempting.

At this point you need to make a decision.  Go without, have the sweet treat your colleague is having or go for a healthy alternative.   Here are 5 great snacks you can have that are healthy and more importantly very tasty!

1. Carrots + Low Fat Philadelphia garlic and herb Cream cheese

This is an awesome treat that is pretty mess free, damn tasty and feels like a proper treat.    You have your carrot batons and dip them in a small amount of the cream cheese.    The carrots are high in fibre, vitamin K, Potassium, and are loaded with antioxidants.    They are filling, and something really to sink your teeth into.  There isn’t much nutritional value in the cream cheese, but as it’s low in calories and tasty so it can be a guilt free treat.  It’s also a much better alternative to humus which is deceptively high in calories!

2. Romano Peppers + Almonds (10, not 3 big handfuls!)

Romano Peppers are a real superfood when it comes to vitamins.  Loaded with A, B, C, E and K which means energy boost and good for the immune system.   They are also very tasty.   Almonds mixed in gives your snack the crunch and fibre.  Almonds are a slow release energy that controls blood sugar levels and will see off your cravings until dinner.  Just be careful not to have too many! 🙂

3. Cucumber with salt and lemon

This is a great summer treat when the weather is warm and the office AC isn’t doing as well as it should be.  Chop up some cucumber, sprinkle some salt over and a splash of lemon and you have a hydrating, filling, easy snack that is perfect on a hot day.  Minimal calories so no guilt here and a classy little snack that again feels like a little treat.

4. Rice cakes and almond butter spread.

Grab yourself 2 to 4 rice cakes and thinly spread some almond butter on it.   Slow release energy, check.  Fill you up, check.  Tastes great, that’s a big fat check right there.  If you want to spice things up, chuck in a few berries for that sweetness.

5. Total 0% Greek Yogurt, Strawberries and Cinnamon.

This is the big one ladies and gents.  Get your smug face on, because everyone’s going to be jealous of the amazing treat you’re having.   We saved the best till last.

This is a great twist on a classic summer snack.   The yogurt gives you the smooth and silky, strawberries add the sweetness and cinnamon tops it off with a little spice.   It’s super high in protein which will help you maintain muscle and drop fat.

All of these treats are minimal prep, very tasty and will leave your colleagues jealous.  You’re treating yourself which raises your mental spirits.  You’re putting the good stuff in your body, and avoiding all the bad treats that are in the office.
