The Importance of Mobility
Mobility is the basics of a functioning body. You need mobility to be able to move your body to walk, run, carry, lift. If your mobility is compromised due to weakness or muscle imbalance then any basic task becomes more difficult and challenging. There is also an increased risk of injury which sucks because it makes you even more immobile.
Here are 5 reasons why you should take mobility seriously:
1 – Decreased chance of injury. The more mobile you are, the better your posture and the less you’ll injure yourself by stretching too far or moving too quickly. Your core will be stronger too, meaning if you fall or move sharply there’s less chance of you pulling/tearing a muscle.
2 – Keeps joints healthy. Mobility exercises promote the transfer of blood to joints being worked on, giving them a boost in strength and flexibility. The more you do this, the healthier your joints become.
3 – Stronger. Yes, moving around makes you stronger. How does that work? Well, it means you can perform an exercise or movement better, making the result of the exercise or movement better and thus making you stronger. Picture this, if you can only do half a squat because your mobility is poor, you won’t get the full benefit of the exercise. Same with lifting weights, or even just the shopping.
4 – Time Efficient. Mobility exercises are usually simple and quick exercises that takes very little time in comparison to the effects on your body. This makes it a very efficient way of exercising areas of your body that need a little help.
5 – All you need is you. No costly equipment, not even a change of clothing in many cases. Perfect for when you can’t get to the gym. You can do the exercises anywhere and anytime!
Having a good level of mobility means you’ll be faster, stronger and have a better range of motion which makes exercise easier and workouts more effective. You will also feel really nice by interrupting that lethargic feeling and low energy levels that lack of movement creates.
I have a bunch of mobility exercises on my Instagram you can checkout. Here’s one of my favourites for the hips. You can do them at work, at home, in the park, anywhere! Just do them 🙂 They’ll make you feel a bit more sprightly.
Have a great day,
Alex
